Laid-back Clearwater Beach is known for its stretch of soft, white sand, which draws visitors year-round for jet-skiing, parasailing, and stand-up paddleboarding in its calm waters. Cyclists and rollerbladers glide along a winding beachfront promenade lined with casual seafood restaurants and cafes. Come sunset, Pier 60 hosts a nightly festival with street performers and craft vendors.
For many years, this was our winter get away until one trip we hit a cold spell, and it was warmer back in Charlotte than it was in Clearwater. After that, we went as far south as possible, Key West, and have made that our winter go to now. I did love our trips, we would bike ride everywhere. And there was a breakfast place called the Beach Shanty that served a homemade coconut syrup with pancakes, that we have never found anywhere else!
Our other favorite place to eat is The Columbia restaurant In Sand Key. The bread and the 1905 Salad are like nothing I have had!
We stayed at the Hampton Inn, which is beach front. The rooms are spacious with balconies overlooking the ocean offering picture perfect sunsets.
