Newport is a city set on Aquidneck Island in the New England state of Rhode Island. Its yacht-filled harbor hosted the America’s Cup, a renowned annual sailing regatta, for many years. Newport is also known for the Gilded Age mansions lining Bellevue Avenue, called the Cliff Walk. Many are now museums. The most famous is The Breakers, an 1895 mansion patterned after a Renaissance palace. The center of the bustling downtown area, Thames Street is lined on either side with a myriad of shops, restaurants, and bars, making it a worthwhile place to stop between morning mansion viewings and sunset sails.
This town is glamorous and charming all in one. Newport has one of the most walkable downtowns of the classic New England port cities. The Midtown Oyster bar offered more variety of oysters I knew existed. And I tried most of them. I admit I like oysters from the Northeast much more than South Carolina, the cold water just adds a whole different flavor profile. I did not lodge right in Newport, but did stay in Province at NYLO Providence Warwick Hotel, Tapestry Collection by Hilton.
