Our last stop on our wine and cheese pairing collaboration was Mountain Brook Vineyard, also located in the Tryon NC foothills.
The vibe here was very upscale and I loved it. When we walked through the entrance of the Experience Center, I looked below into a sophisticated environment filled with large tables, wine barrels, overstuffed sofas with the sounds of smooth jazz filling the air.
The first grapes were planted at Mountain Brook in 2002. The winery was established in 2012, and the vineyard and a tasting room opened to the public in 2013. Vickie and Jonathan Redgrave acquired the property in 2018 and began modernizing and expanding the winery and vineyard, with the goal of creating an exceptional winery experience for their guests. The property consists of 75 acres, with 14 acres on the estate planted to sauvignon blanc, pinot grigio, cabernet franc, petit verdot, merlot, cabernet sauvignon, and malbec.
There are two areas to enjoy the wine, The Experience Center, where you will receive exclusive access to wines that are not available on The Lawn.
In addition, you have a dedicated server that will provide you with a personalized presentation on each wine to explain the terroir of the area and their unique approaches to winemaking. Our server was Eric, he was extremely knowledgeable and patient, never rushed us through our tasting. The Experience Center does require reservations. The other option is The Lawn, which is one of the largest outdoor tasting rooms in the Southeast, with both indoor and outdoor seating, covered porches, a fireplace, an open-air fire pit, a detached pavilion, and plenty of open lawn area for strolling and relaxing. The Lawn does not require reservations.
They do provide charcuterie and outside food is allowed in.
Since this was our last stop and I had to drive back to Fort Mill that evening, I didn’t get to spend nearly the amount of time I wanted too, so I definitely will be going back soon to spend the time it deserves.
